Connex Credit Union Awards $8,000 in Scholarships

Connex Credit Union has awarded four $2,000 scholarships to college-bound or returning undergraduate students for its annual scholarship program. The scholarship program is part of the credit union's larger philanthropic initiative, ConnexCares, and recognizes exceptional students who are both active in their schools and the community, giving back to others through services and volunteer work.

"Connex is deeply committed to the betterment of the communities we serve," said Carl Casper, EVP/ CRO, Connex Credit Union. "Helping young people with the expenses associated with college is aligned with our mission and Connex is proud to support these students with their next steps."

The 2023 ConnexCares scholarship winners are as follows: - Grace Wentland, of West Hartford, is the recipient of the David F. Clark Arts & Music Scholarship. Grace is a 2023 Conard High School graduate, and plans to attend the University of Connecticut in the Fall as a double major in Biology and Music. Grace has been a member of multiple youth symphonies and plays the oboe, English horn, and tenor saxophone. Grace's dedication to the community is reflected through The Starfish Project. Starfish pairs high school leaders with groups of elementary students to identify and target bullying based on the younger students' perspectives, providing young stud

- Kaileigh Tarantino, of Wilton, is the recipient of the John R. Edwards Community Involvement Scholarship. Kaileigh is a 2023 Daniel Hand High School graduate and plans to attend New York University in the Fall as a Real Estate major. Kaileigh was a part of Daniel Hand High School's advisory committee in developing a class that requires students to assist and talk about mental and social-emotional health in a safe and well-protected environment. Her dedication to the community is reflected through her volunteer work with The Community Dining Room, The Cove Center, Madison Community Services, Madison Food Pantry, and other organizations in her community.

- Beth Christensen, of Winsted, is the recipient of the Nicolas G. Hackett Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of longtime Connex volunteer Nick Hackett. Beth is a returning Smith College student pursuing a major in Geosciences with an Environmental Geoscience track. Beth earned Dean's List at Smith College for the 2021-2022 academic year and was awarded the top 30 students of the Freshman class. She participated on Smith College's Lunadisc Ultimate Frisbee team while holding many leadership roles including Lunadisc Social Media and Alumni Relations Representative and New Player Representative.

- Olivia Tripp, of Branford, is the recipient of the Arthur B. Haesche Memorial Scholarship. Olivia is a 2023 Branford High School graduate and plans to double major in Marketing and Communications in the Fall. Olivia's dedication to the community is reflected through her volunteer work at local organizations, including the Branford Recreational Camp as a counselor in training, as well as a Youth Lacrosse Camp where she coached young lacrosse players. Olivia also participates in an annual fundraiser walk to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
