The Meriden Transit District has teamed up with the Middletown Area Transit to provide bus service between Meriden and Middletown through a $108,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration. With the Job Access Program grant, officials hope to start this service August 21st. The route was the product of joint meetings involving Joe Zajac, administrator of the Meriden Transit District, representatives of the Middlesex County and Greater Meriden Chambers of Commerce, the cities of Meriden and Middletown, JobWorks and Thomas Cheeseman, Middletown Area Transit Administrator. Buses run between the 2 cities each weekday and on Saturday. They also provide opportunities for residents to shop as well as being a boost to employers and potential employees. The grant is for 1 year but, if it proves successful, additional funding could be found to continue the service.
