Westfield Shoppingtown, Meriden, is donating two buses to the Police Department for neighborhood association use. Once the former school buses have decals of police badges placed on them and community police officers are trained to drive them, residents could be riding on them to association events and field trips out of town. It was noted that a shuttle bus could be the answer to transportation problems associated with planning group events, especially ones targeted at children. Bruce Eagleson, general manager of the shopping mall, is glad to show support for the community, and has offered to store the vehicles on mall property. The mall management has also built and furnished a community policing substation near J.C. Penney, which has been in use since December.
