April 28, 2002

The library has many special events slated for their Centennial Celebration that is going on now through April of 2003. One of the events, Meriden Reads, is being organized by Board Members Marianne Papandrea and Joan Edgerly. Modeled after a program done in Chicago, we'd like to have many groups in the community reading the same book, To Kill a Mockingbird. We would love this to happen over the course of a month or so, leading up to a "mock" trial, during Winter of 2003. And, we're encouraging everyone in the community to hold a game night for us. Back in the 1890's, ladies from the Thursday Morning Club held military whist parties in their homes, and those attending would make donations to the library building fund! It could be cards, Scrabble, Monopoly, Candy Land, Pictionary - you name it! Families would host the game party and have refreshments, donations would be collected and given to the library to put towards an item on the wish list.
