STOP IN TO MERIDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY AND PLAY "DASH FOR THE STASH" FOR A CHANCE TO WIN $1000 IRA

April 13, 2015

As part of Money Smart Week and Financial Literacy Month, Meriden Public Library will be participating in the DASH for the STASH multi-state program. The DASH for the STASH program is an investor education and protection poster contest that takes place as part of April's Financial Literacy Month in public libraries and other venues in participating states. The 2015 DASH program will run from April 15 through May 15, 2015 in Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska. It is sponsored by the State Securities Administrator and the Investor Protection Institute, a nonprofit organization with the goal of investor education.

The primary goal for the DASH program is to arm investors, particularly young investors ages 20-35, with the unbiased and non-commercial information they need to make crucial investing decisions. This includes, but is not limited to, investors having the knowledge and resources to find suitable advisors; avoiding investment scams, fraud and schemes; realizing and evaluating the fees associated with particular investments; and understanding the benefits and rules of tax-sheltered 401(k) and IRA tools.

DASH features a series of informational posters posted in the library. Each poster focuses on one investor education and protection topic, and each poster topic features an associated quiz question to answer. To play, participants read the content on each poster, scan the unique QR code to access that topic's quiz question, and submit their answer via smartphone, tablet, or laptop computer. Participants can also play via public computer at participating local libraries. Each poster is rich in investor education and protection content and it takes approximately 5-10 minutes to read each poster. Each State will randomly select one winner from among those who answered all of the quiz questions correctly and that person will receive $1,000 to open or add to an IRA.

Contact the Community Services Department of the Meriden Public Library at (203) 630-6349 if you have questions.
