December 12, 2000

To celebrate Meriden's 200th birthday in 2006, the library is making the city's first attempt to create an oral history. Mayor Marinan suggested the idea to Library Directory Marcia Trotta. The information will be gathered after numerous interviews with various people and filmed in a home video. The facial expressions of the interviewees will offer a personal view of Meriden's history. Lincoln Middle School sixth-graders are working with resident artist Sally Rogers on the project. The students interviewed city officials and prominent historical figures. Ms. Rogers will assist them in creating songs from poetry books. Mayor Marinan is inviting anyone wishing to be interviewed or help conduct the interviews to contact the library for an appointment at (203) 238-2344. The interviews need not describe major events, only normal aspects of life.
