January 3, 2005

The Meriden Public Library has been chosen as one of the two communities in the state (the other is Stratford) to pilot the Connecticut State Department of Education's Family Learning Project. The goal of the current implementation phase of the project is to learn how best to create family learning communities. The Library will bring various community partners together to promote and support family learning activities. Meriden Public Library was chosen as a pilot community because of its expertise in family literacy programs. Partners in the project include the Meriden Public Schools, the Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce, Easter Seals Headstart, the Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc. and the Meriden Wallingford Substance Abuse Council. Families participating in the program will receive a Family Learning Kit which includes a new children's book.
