LIBERTY BANK TO SPONSOR THE K9s FOR WARRIORS PROGRAM

June 16, 2014

The Travelers Championship is excited to announce a new Military Appreciation initiative at this year's tournament. With the support of Liberty Bank, the K9s For Warriors program will provide a service dog to a deserving veteran to help her cope with the struggles of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

"We are honored to continue to support our military through programs such as K9s For Warriors," said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. "We can't thank these brave men and women enough for their service to our country."

"K9s For Warriors provides a wonderful service for veterans and we're proud to support their vital work," says Liberty Bank President and CEO Chandler J. Howard and Travelers Championship board member. "As a Vietnam veteran myself, I'm delighted to know that we're helping make reentry into civilian life easier for a Connecticut veteran."

K9s For Warriors provides dogs that are rescued from shelters and trains them to be service canines for our military troops and veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Service canines are a medically-proven recovery aid for our warriors suffering from this disease. Thanks to the support of Liberty Bank, one Connecticut veteran will complete the K9s For Warriors program.

Liberty Bank wants fans to help in naming the service canine. To submit a name, please click here. The canine's name will be announced at the Travelers Championship on Saturday, June 21, in the Patriots' Outpost.

The K9s For Warriors program is three-week academy in Jacksonville, Fla, where the veteran and canine are brought to train together. The academy is staffed with skilled certified canine handlers. These trainers work with the veteran to train their canine to best support their needs. A Connecticut veteran will receive a service canine, training, certification, equipment, seminars, vet care, meals and housing at the academy.

K9s For Warriors is also proudly supported by Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, which will be donating food and supplies for our Connecticut veteran and canine for a year.

K9s For Warriors is one of the many Military Appreciation initiatives throughout tournament week at the Travelers Championship. Tickets for the 2014 tournament on sale now by visiting their website. This year's Travelers Championship field already includes top players such as Bubba Watson, Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Keegan Bradley, Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker, Sergio Garcia, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Patrick Reed, Jonas Blixt, Marc Leishman, Louis Oosthuizen and reigning hampion Ken Duke. The Travelers Championship will be held June 16 to 22 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
