New Opportunities began offering assistance to sen ...

March 18, 2002

New Opportunities began offering assistance to seniors with housework, shopping, yardwork and home repairs on January 2nd. The CHORE Project for Elders is paid for through a grant from the South Central Area Agency on Aging and is available at no charge for Meriden and Wallingford residents 60 and older. Program Coordinator Amy Soto believes that many older residents do not wish to trouble families with requests, but these are essential to maintaining independence and a good quality of life. Assistance like Meals on Wheels and shuttle service to grocery stores is available through the Senior Center, but New Opportunities can provide services which the Center doesn't, believes Director John Hogarth. Elderly residents of Meriden have already favorably received the service.
