New Opportunities sponsored a successful Walk For ...

New Opportunities sponsored a successful Walk For Warmth early in March. Joined by Mayor Benigni, City Manger Kemp and Health Director Vumbaco, more than 120 participated. Meriden's Police Explorers, teens trained in community policing, helped the walkers through the city streets. It was organized to raise money for those who earn enough to disqualify themselves from state or federal assistance but not enough to pay the cost of heating bills. Larry Elliott originated the walk in 1990, which has succeeded due to both individual and corporate support. Director of New Opportunities Dave Gilmore believes the effort helps not only seniors but needy people of all ages. All who participated were glad for the opportunity to assist those less fortunate.
