The Community Action Agency of Meriden is offering classes in life skills, customer service, job preparation, interviewing and literacy to residents of Meriden's Shelter NOW. David Gilmore, director of the agency, maintains that the needs of the homeless are not understood by most people, But they must remember that financial setbacks can render anyone without shelter. Many people can help themselves out of financial difficulties, but those suffering complications such as mental illness or a lack of life skills would find the recovery much more difficult.
