Kuhn Employee Receives Statewide Recognition from CCPA

Connecticut Community Providers Association (CCPA) is a statewide member organization of agencies that provide services to people with disabilities. Each year CCPA members nominate a direct care staff member for the Direct Support Professional Award. This year Kuhn Employment Opportunities staff member Sonia Montford was honored. Sonia is a Job Coach with Kuhn's East Hampton based program. Kuhn's Transitional Employment Program in the East Hampton Board of Education provides coordinated school-to-work transition services for special education students. Sonia was recognized for her strong communication skills, excellent rapport with her students and ability to capitalize on teachable moments. "Sonia always puts the needs of her students first. She is thoughtful of their needs and interests and tries to use these to motivate them to improve. Sonia is a joy to work with and always has a positive attitude. Her compassion for her clients and her love for her job comes through every day in the work that she does." states Erin Gasparini, Sonia's supervisor. A celebratory event was held at the Hartford Marriot last month. Congratulations to Sonia and to Kuhn!

Kuhn Employment Opportunities is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. Kuhn has provided people with disabilities opportunities to work and earn a living since 1962. Founded by Meriden native Ernest B. Kuhn, Kuhn has grown to operate 4 locations in three towns and serves more than 400 participants per year. Kuhn operates by the V.I.P. principle.
