Hunter's is expanding its operations in Berlin, Wallingford and Middletown. The expansions are necessitated by increasing demands for services, including emergency response as well as non-emergency transportation. The larger area will accommodate ambulances and vans moved to those locations. Hunter's also intends to purchase three properties near its Meriden headquarters. Many multifamily houses in the neighborhood have been acquired by Hunter's for rent by employees. This reduces commuting time and allows quick response by employees on call.. The company was founded with a single ambulance in 1963 and now boasts 150 vehicles, including ambulances, limousines and vans, and 490 employees. Hunter's handles 800 to 900 emergency calls a day statewide.
