It is with great pride that Hunter's Ambulance announces that the Meriden Elks has selected John Gopoian as one the four emergency service recipients of their Community Safety Award for his devotion and dedication to emergency service, health, education and public safety. John received his award during a ceremony held on Saturday, January 24, 2004. This event was attended by over 200 people including John's family, Hunter family members, Hunter's management team, Hunter's EMS Explorers, many friends and other honored guests. John was selected as the Hunter's Ambulance Recipient based upon his community involvement with the Hunter's EMS Explorer Post 181, their activities within our local communities, and providing EMS training/lectures to community groups. Collectively, John and the Explorers have participated in over 1554 hours of community work! A timeline of events which were organized, sponsored or participated in by John Gopoian, Hunter's EMS Explorer Post 181 Advisor (John is also Hunter's Ambulance Corporate Facilities Manager) and Explorer Post 181 members is listed below.

One of the most outstanding events which John has developed and organized is the Emergency Merit Badge Class for Boy Scouts. It was offered with the assistance of our Explorer Post 181 in June 2003 when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced an increased effort in partnering with the Boy Scouts of America to increase the level of citizen preparedness around the country. During the June 2003 training class, over 80 Boy Scouts from the Sleeping Giant District attended this class and received their First Aid &Emergency Preparedness Merit Badges. Successfully obtaining these badges, the Boy Scouts had to handle a variety of emergencies while satisfying two of the requirements needed to reach the highest rank in Boy Scouts - Eagle Scout. State of Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumental commended John, "congratulations on providing education in important life saving techniques and sustaining and serving the Boy Scouts motto of 'Be Prepared.'"
