On May 8th, Marcia Trotta was the third recipient of the Annual "Strong, Smart and Bold" Award. Typical of her manner, Mrs. Trotta shared the credit for achievements with others, including the Club, which helps girls prepare for productive personal and professional lives. Among the attendees at the Dinner were the members of the Junior Leadership group, teen-age girls who work on community service projects and help with the organization's program for younger children. Mrs. Trotta has been on the Meriden Public Library staff for 29 years and has served as its Director since 1994. Mayor Mark D. Benigni read a proclamation declaring Friday, May 10th as Marcia Trotta Day in Meriden. Governor John Rowland also named Wednesday, May 8th as Marcia Trotta Day in Connecticut. The Kiwanis Club of Meriden and Girls Inc. jointly awarded a $ 3,000 scholarship to Caitlin O'Connor of Meriden. The Kiwanis Club also announced that it is donating $ 1,750 and will provide volunteer labor for major improvements to be made soon to the playscape at Girls' Inc.'s center on Lincoln Street.
