On two acres of woodsy wetlands, a pond, and amid several modern buildings, is the Franciscan Life Center. The center has received three grants to improve that areas around the pond: $1,000 from Northeast Utilities, $2,500 from the Cuno Foundation and $4,000 from the Waterbury Foundation. Founder/Executive Director of the center Mother Shaun Vergauwen said that the money would be used to improve pond surroundings and to fix the trail around it. The Waterbury and Cuno Foundation grants help children with financial difficulties to attend the Franciscan Life Center summer camp. The educational aspect of the restoration was one of the main reasons for the grants.
