*IMPORTANT NOTE* From Meriden Health & Human Services Director Lea Crown

December 27, 2020

Hello MidState Chamber Members,

Starting Monday, December 21, 2020, the Meriden Department of Health and Human Services has adopted a 10 day self-quarantine and additional 4 day self-monitoring period for all identified close contacts of those who test positive for COVID-19 starting Monday, December 21, 2020. Please note, those that work (and live) in congregate care facilities will still follow the full 14 day self-quarantine due to the risk of high transmission in these settings.

The incubation period for COVID-19 has not changed; it is still 14 days. A 14 day quarantine is still recommended by CDC. It may, however, impose significant personal and community burdens in some circumstances and may dissuade individuals from responding to contact tracer outreach if the length of quarantine is perceived to be a burden.

Therefore, the following guidance will be given during our contact tracing calls: - The close contact should stay home for 10 days after they were last exposed and maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet from others at all time. They should self-monitor for symptoms, such as shortness of breath and check their temp 2x per day (we can provide thermometers to Meriden residents).

- We also recommend they get tested for COVID and stay home until they get their test results. If they test negative they still should stay home for the full 10 days after their last known exposure.

Quarantine may be discontinued after 10 days if: - daily monitoring of COVID-19 symptoms has been done and they have no symptoms of COVID-19, AND
- they continue to self-monitor for symptoms after the 10 days for an additional 4 days (days 11-14). If any symptoms develop, the person should immediately self-isolate and contact their doctor, who may want them to get tested. If they get tested in days 11-14 they need to stay home until they get their test result back.
- Once their 10 day quarantine is complete, they need to continue to take measures needed to prevent COVID-19, including but not limited to:

- wearing a mask when out in public; - avoid gatherings with people who are not in your immediate household, are over 65 years old or those who have a medical condition that places them at increased risk of COVID-19. Please note the state travel advisory has also been amended to reflect this new quarantine period. Governor's Executive Order 9s orders and directs the changes I encourage everyone to review the state travel advisory webpage (EO is linked on the webpage): https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/travel

As always, any questions please reach out to me at 203-630-4220 or email at lcrown@meridenct.gov.
