Members Team Up For Teen Financial Literacy Presentation

Representatives of two Meriden Chamber businesses joined forces and spent time with students at Platt High School in December to conduct a financial literacy class. Ty Bongiovanni, Bongiovanni Insurance & Financial, LLC, who was also representing The Young Business Leaders of Connecticut, talked to the students about the importance of saving more, spending less and borrowing smart. He used examples from past personal experience to warn them of the potential dangers of credit card use. Gloria Griffiths, from the Meriden Schools Federal Credit Union, explained the difference between banks and credit unions and the advantages of credit union membership. Connecticut is one of only ten states that does not require financial literacy in its curriculum. In these difficult times, we are reminded of the importance of teenagers learning to save, budget and plan for their financial future. They are our future business leaders.
