November 18, 2002

Recently, at a special event held at the Hawthorne Inn, the Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce recognized its Ambassadors. The Chamber Ambassadors are a sub-committee of the Membership Committee. Their main goal is to welcome new businesses to the community and encourage them to become involved in the Chamber of Commerce. The annual event is a year-end wrap up and new year kick off for the group. Chamber President Séan Moore thanked the Ambassadors for their most successful year to date. A record number of new members joined the Chamber and he looks forward to continued growth next year through membership drives and continued success on the retention rate of current members. Lynn A. Faria, Chamber Chairman of the Board and Frank W. Ridley, Membership Committee Chairman were also on hand to salute the Ambassadors, along with the Board Members, who also worked diligently to increase membership. Several awards were presented to recognize individuals for their continued commitment to the role as an Ambassador. Eileen Bongiovanni, Bongiovanni Insurance and Investments, Rita Mercier, A-1 Associates, and James Ieronimo, Meriden School - Business Partnerships received the Ambassador of Distinction Award. Veteran of the Year was awarded to Michael Barker, Joseph Barker Enterprises and the Stork Club, for Mr. Barker's ongoing commitment to the Chamber for his many years of hard work and dedication in his constant efforts to strengthen Chamber membership. The William Sears Rice Award was presented to Jackie Fordiani, Constituent Caseworker for the City of Meriden and owner of J. Fordiani Designs. This award is in honor of Bill Rice, a very involved Chamber member for many years that was dedicated not only to the Chamber, but also to the improvement of downtown and his community. President Moore cited Ms. Fordiani's recent involvement in coordinating Meriden's Festival on Main Street, held in September, that brought together several area organizations for the very first time for a wonderful and successful event. Rookie of the Year was awarded to Maria Trella-Drauss of Girls, Inc. for her commitment and great spirit as a newer Ambassador to the Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce. Team of the Year was awarded to the Bongiovanni Team comprised of Eileen and Terry Bongiovanni (Bongiovanni Insurance & Investments), co-captains, John Benigni (Meriden Y.M.C.A.), Jackie Fordiani (City of Meriden and J. Fordiani Designs), Dana Hunter-Moyer (Hunter's Ambulance), Rita Mercier (A-1 Associates), Kelley M. Moore (Kelli's A Salon, LLC), and Maria Trella-Drauss (Girls, Inc.). Individual Awards were also presented based on points awarded for participation in events and increasing membership. Finally, the Ambassador of the Year was awarded to Roland G. Santoni, RPS Special Services, for his record-breaking, stellar performance throughout the year. Mr. Santoni brought in over 20 new members throughout the 2001-2002 year. Many thanks to all of the Ambassadors and Board members that continue to strengthen Chamber membership. If anyone is interested in becoming an Ambassador, please contact the Chamber at 203-235-7901.
