REACH is Rising at Women and Families Center

March 31, 2014

Women and Families Center Project REACH has teamed together with Meriden Board of Education to establish relationships with students from Wilcox Tech, Venture Academy, Maloney and Platt High School during scheduled lunch waves. This partnership allow staff and students to meet in an environment that is full of energy and excitement, and most importantly, fun. We incorporated a display board for students to see how Project REACH can support them. The display board contains information on RISE (REACH in School Empowerment), Short Term Emergency Housing, Voices (Self Esteem) group for girls, and our Safe Space group for LGBT youth. For those quiet, introverted students, we swing by their tables and try a different approach.

REACH is excited about this new partnership. Students have been receptive and are becoming more comfortable approaching staff with insightful questions and disclosing personal stories.

Over the past year, Project REACH has housed 12 youth who were in need of short term emergency housing, 100% increase in the number of youth over last year. Currently, REACH is seeking individuals and families who are interested in making a difference in the lives of youth in need. Interested individuals would receive a signing bonus, monthly stipend, comprehensive training and 24 hour support.
