The YMCA is helping the arts community in Meriden with its plan to develop downtown into an arts and entertainment destination. An arts center in Meriden could unite the downtown, said the arts center committee chairman, Steve Robichaud. Y's nationwide are promoting arts and humanities. Arts and entertainment is a marketable image for Meriden and could attract several new businesses downtown. An architectural firm has been commissioned with money from the city and various arts groups to develop a feasibility plan within the city. The Meriden Y.M.C.A. has tentatively scheduled a meeting for March 29th to discuss two plans. Once a plan is accepted, the next step would be to seek funding, which the Y.M.C.A. has the experience to do.
