Painted Ladies Opening Reception at Gallery 53

On Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 1pm to 3 pm, join artists Ellie Bender, Bonnie Potter, and Rita Sarris along with G53 staff for an opening reception of the August exhibit, "Painted Ladies."

See a selection of work from each artist that showcases their unique style. Ellie Bender, an award-winning artist, was professionally trained at the Art School of Fashion in Hartford, CT. She studied oil and watercolor at the Hartford Art School. Bender and studied pastels with Claudia Post, Alan Flattman, and Elizabeth Mowry. Contemporary realism describes her style of painting which entails applying pastel in a layered technique creating intense color and contrasts, reflecting fabric and texture. She has taught portrait classes at Gallery 53 for many years. Bender is a native of Meriden, CT.

Bonnie Potter, an award-winning painter, has studied under Bruce Raven and at Lyme Academy College of Fine Art, in addition to attending numerous workshops. Her subject matter covers landscapes, still life, and portraits. Currently she teaches multi-medium portrait, and landscape classes at Gallery 53. Potter is a native of Maine, and currently resides in Willington, CT. The influence of Maine's natural beauty prevails in many of Potter's paintings.

Rita Saris, an award-winning artist, studied oil painting with Bruce Raven and pastels with David Cain and Mally DeSomma. Still life is her subject matter; realism describes her style. Additionally, Saris was director of Gallery 53 from February 2006 to December 2019. Previously Rita was owner and office manager for Sarris Real Estate in Cheshire where she oversaw every aspect of the business. She studied business law, economics, and accounting at Quinnipiac University. As Director of Gallery 53 Sarris combined both her business skills and her love of art. Born in NYC, Sarris has resided in Cheshire, CT for most of her life.
