Online Auction, Animals and the Arts

Animals and the Arts Auction Press Release MERIDEN, CT--Who doesn't love animals and the arts? Look at this opportunity to support both. Currently, Gallery 53 has an online auction underway featuring two different kinds of original work by local artists. Part of the proceeds will be shared with the Meriden Humane Society. One piece is a stained-glass mosaic created by friends of the Gallery: Elizabeth Cardona, Dawn Finaldi, Cathy Gannon, Donna Girard, Sandy Goodyear, Debi Powers, Paula Snedeker, Willi Stahura, Diane Szymaszek, and Christine Webster. Visually, this mosaic displays a splash of nine yellow, orange, and white daffodils seen at various angles against a light and dark shade of blue, and white background. Appropriate for inside or outside use, the mosaic is 3 by 5 feet, and weighs 50 pounds. While it can be transplanted anywhere, Gallery 53 requests that the mosaic be installed in a public place in Meriden for all to enjoy along with the plaque listing its creators. Also, to be auctioned, are two metal daffodil sculptures by Rick Grondin. The unique structures are each 5 feet, 4 inches tall, and weigh 30 pounds. Holes exist in the base for permanent installation. It can be transplanted anywhere. These proceeds will be split between Gallery 53 and The Meriden Humane Society. A self-taught sculptor for a couple of years, Grondin says his ideas stem from art shows he has frequented around the state. Grondin,? ?a Meriden native, who creates metal sculptures in his spare time donated the two sculptures to The Meriden Humane Society, and Gallery 53. Why he donates his work, Grondin says he likes to give back to the community and he enjoys seeing his work displayed locally.
