Skill Up For Manufacturing Class Graduates

The eighth Skill Up for Manufacturing class graduated yesterday afternoon from Middlesex Community College. This intrepid group studied hard seven hours a day plus homework for five weeks to earn their training certificates and are now ready for entry-level positions in the industry. All twenty graduates also received OSHA 10, Lean Six Sigma (yellow belt) and pre-apprenticeship certification as part of their course work. But most of all, each has demonstrated the commitment, enthusiasm and talent to become lifelong machinists. Designed to provide vetted and trained candidates for the manufacturing labor pool, Skill Up is part of Connecticut's pipeline initiative to meet the demand for new employees. Our staff has done their job in getting them prepared, now it's up to industry to put them to work. I do need to thank the twenty-two companies who grabbed a glove and got in the game during the program, so that each student had an opportunity to meet personally with potential employers and learn what it takes to launch a successful career. Now is when the rubber hits the road, as all graduates are actively looking for the right fit to make it in manufacturing. Look them over closely, consider your hiring needs (whether current of projected) and get in touch with me to get them on board. Remember that all students are eligible for State OJT funds to offset initial salaries, making this an even more attractive proposition.
