In celebration of National Volunteer Services Week ...

In celebration of National Volunteer Services Week, and in keeping with an annual tradition, Masonic Healthcare Center recognized 151 adult volunteers from the community and 35 in-house volunteers who cumulatively contributed more than 47,000 hours to the Center during the past year. Awards were presented at a special luncheon held on April 20 at Ashlar Village, Masonicare's continuing care retirement community located on their Wallingford campus. Junior volunteer scholarships were also presented to three area students.The top three in-house contributors for the year were Anna Barra (837), Ruth Bruton (1,555) and Alcine Reed (1,596), while the top adult community volunteers were George W. Smith, (793), Margaret Pavlick (805) and Evelyn DellaRocca (994). The volunteer who amassed the most total hours over many years was adult community volunteer Marion Naiss of Wallingford, who received a pin for volunteering a total of 36,500 hours at Masonic Healthcare Center.
For the fourth year, Masonic Healthcare Center awarded three scholarships in the amount of $500 each to students who are pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Each recipient volunteered a minimum of 100 hours at the Masonic Healthcare Center. Those receiving scholarships were Joann LaCerva, Kim Cegelka and Peter Cegelka.
Masonicare offers several opportunities for teenagers and adults to volunteer their time and energy to help provide the best possible quality care environment to patients and residents.
A wide variety of volunteer opportunities in several care settings are available, including acute care, skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, and several specialty clinics and therapies.
