Richard Orr Named to the Board of Connecticut Legal Services

Richard F. Orr, Esq., vice president & general counsel, BL Companies, Inc., has been named to the Board of Directors of Connecticut Legal Services (CLS). As a private, non-profit, civil law firm dedicated to helping low-income families and individuals obtain justice, CLS serves all of Connecticut except the greater Hartford and New Haven areas.Mr. Orr, a resident of West Hartford, joined BL Companies in 1997. Prior to that time he was senior counsel to the Speaker of the House, Connecticut General Assembly; litigation partner for Tyler Cooper; federal prosecutor and trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice; staff attorney for Arnold & Porter; and a clerk for the Honorable Jon O. Newman, U.S. District Judge.
He has taught trial advocacy at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, law school continuing education programs and at the Connecticut Bar Association. He has been counsel and treasurer for several democratic candidates for statewide office and was appointed by a republican governor to an advisory panel to craft a solution to Enron's default on a $200 million obligation to the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority.
Mr. Orr earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education at Dickinson College cum laude and a JD degree from New York University Law School. He is married with two adult children.
