The consolidation of two separate divisions of Rad ...

November 17, 1999

The consolidation of two separate divisions of Radio Frequency Systems may increase the number of employees needed at the Research Drive facility. The new company, which globally merged the former RFS and Cablewave groups, will be based in the area of Charlotte, N.C., also the home of Alcatel, the parent corporation. Its manufacturing, distribution, sales and service operations are located in Europe, North and South America, Australia and China. North and Latin American customers will be served by the combined Cablewave and Celawave product lines, to be known as RFS America, located at the 350,000 square-foot Meriden facility. The company also operates a manufacturing plant at the Meriden Hub, with a total of 390 employees. Richard Tallon, previous president of Celawave, will head the new operation. Company spokesman Alan Wulff believes Meriden will benefit because it is headquarters of RFS America. The new company will serve global carriers, distributors and systems integrators in the broadcast, cellular, personal communication system, land-mobile and microwave market sectors. It will have more than 2,000 employees and a sales volume of more than $550 million worldwide. M.S. Edwards, Jr., president of the new global wireless infrastructure company, believes the change will increase the value of their products and services. William Bayne, former senior vice president for operations at the Meriden facility, is now senior vice president of sales and marketing for RFS America.
