The newspaper is offering minority internship/scholarships to local high school and college students pursuing journalism careers. The program for minority students (black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, etc.) offers full-time summer work in the news department with the potential to earn up to $3,500; and the chance to win a $1,500 scholarship. Applications are available in the guidance offices of area high schools or from the human resources department of the newspaper. The internships are renewable through four years of college. The paper also offers news internships for any college students pursuing a journalism career. To apply, contact Executive Editor James H. Smith. Applications for the intern programs are due at the paper by February 1, 2002.
