Middlesex Community College Announces Dr. Adrienne Maslin as Interim Dean of Academic Affairs

September 13, 2010

Middlesex Community College's (MxCC) newly appointed Dean of Students, Dr. Adrienne Maslin, will take on the role of Interim Dean of Academic Affairs for the 2010-2011 scholastic year. Prior to her April appointment as Dean of Students, Dr. Maslin had been Associate Dean of Learning and Student Development for the past eleven years. In this capacity Dr. Maslin supervised the offices of Admissions, Records, Financial Aid, Student Activities, the MxCC Preschool, and Academic Advising. She additionally was and continues to be the college's liaison to the college's accrediting agency, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

As Dean of Student Affairs and Interim Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Maslin supervises the student and academic support services provided to students and is responsible for developing policies, programs, and practices relating to academic advising, student retention, opportunities for student engagement, and student conduct and discipline. In the realm of academic affairs, Dr. Maslin has overall responsibility for such areas as curriculum, faculty matters, and the assessment of learning outcomes.

"I am hopeful that this year will see new emphasis placed on developmental education including the development of a transitional year program for students who need to strengthen basic skills, greater discussion among members of the college community on issues related to student success, renewed collaboration with the public schools, and new program development," said Dr. Maslin. She is particularly encouraged about the opportunity to bring the academic and student services areas together for greater collaboration to help MxCC students achieve their goals.

"I am especially pleased to be working with Dr. Maslin, who is a seasoned professional and as I learned a warm and helpful colleague," said Jonathan M. Daube, interim president.

Dr. Maslin earned her bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of Vermont, her M.Ed. in Counseling from Boston University, and her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Oregon. She lives with her husband and son in West Hartford.
