Masonicare President & CEO Stephen B. McPherson Named to Board of National Association

Washington, D.C.-based LeadingAge is an association of 6,000 not-for-profit organizations in the U.S. focused on advocacy, education, and applied research. LeadingAge promotes home health, hospice, community-based senior services, senior housing, assisted living and continuing care residential communities, adult day services and nursing homes as well as technology solutions and practices that support the overall health and well-being of seniors. Mr. McPherson's term will begin in January.

Masonicare is the largest post-acute care organization in Connecticut. Its continuum of care includes skilled nursing, long-term and dementia care, assisted living, home health and hospice care, as well as physician practices and retirement communities. Mr. McPherson joined Masonicare in 2000 as Chief Financial Officer and has been its President & CEO since 2005.

Under his direction, Masonicare developed a strategic plan involving the modernization and expansion of much of its continuum, including doubling the size of its Continuing Care Retirement Community (Masonicare at Ashlar Village), adding a new state-of-the-art Medical Office Building on its Wallingford campus, partnering with St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center to create Masonicare Partners Home Health in the Greater Hartford area, and an expansion of homecare services in Fairfield County through the assimilation of patients from Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Southwestern CT, which ceased operations last year.

Among his professional affiliations, Mr. McPherson is a board member and past president of LeadingAge Connecticut, past president of the Masonic Communities and Services Association, a member of the Policy Congress for LeadingAge, a diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and an advanced member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association of which he is a past president of the Connecticut chapter. A former adjunct faculty member in the Master's of Public Health program at University of New Haven, he has served on a number of statewide committees addressing healthcare issues, most recently participating in the State Rightsizing Strategic Plan for Long Term Care.

Mr. McPherson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New England College and an MBA from the University of New Haven. He and his wife, Nancy, are Orange residents.
