Masonic's rehabilitation unit has been newly remod ...

August 20, 2001

Masonic's rehabilitation unit has been newly remodeled as a homelike facility offering comprehensive therapy to adults recuperating from illnesses, injuries and surgeries. Doreen Beattie, director of the center, believes that the renovations not only make the surroundings more pleasant, but they also prepare patients for going home. Patients recovering from strokes or orthopedic surgery need to relearn the everyday tasks they do at home, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, reaching cabinets and sitting down. Masonic also encourages family visits with 24-hour, 7-day-a-week visiting hours. President Arthur Santilli commented that rehabilitation at Masonic is very comprehensive, physician-directed, and offers a full-scale of required services, plus specialization in geriatric, making it unique. Masonic is chosen sometimes by patients, sometimes by physicians and sometimes by hospitals such as MidState Medical Center, which refers many patients to there. Masonicare is a small city offering long-term, acute and psychiatric care, independent retirement community living and residential care. Mr. Santilli, who became president two years ago, has as one goal to increase Masonic's rehabilitation and outpatient services.
