Wallingford, Conn - Michele A. Tarantino, MPH, OTR/L, of Wallingford, an occupational therapist at Masonic Healthcare Center, has been nationally certified as a Low Vision Therapist. Tarantino, who has been a member of the rehabilitation services team at Masonic Healthcare Center since 1997, received her accreditation from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professional (ACVREP), a private non-profit organization.As a low vision therapist, Tarantino evaluates and treats patients with a variety of visual disorders including age related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, visual field loss and cataracts. Working in coordination with a physician, Masonic Healthcare Center certified low vision therapists develop customized treatment plans and help low vision patients maximize their independence by adapting their homes, educating on the use of magnification and other optical devices, and teaching new methods to complete daily tasks of living. Approximately 14 million Americans have low vision, according to the Lighthouse National Survey on Vision Loss.
Tarantino received her BS in occupational therapy from the University of New Hampshire, and her master's in public health from Southern Connecticut State University.
