There are many adults in the New Haven area who are waiting for a literacy tutor to give them the extra boost they need to learn to read, write, and speak English. This boost will enable them to reach their personal, educational, and job-related goals--a better job, helping their child succeed in school, or functioning more completely within their family and neighborhood.

Do you have the time and energy to volunteer as a literacy tutor? If so, Literacy Volunteers can use you! Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven is a non-profit agency that trains, certifies, and supports volunteer tutors to work with adults in the Greater New Haven area who need help with basic literacy and/or English as a Second Language skills.

The next training session for tutors begins on September 18. You will be certified as a literacy tutor by the end of the training, and matched with a waiting adult student. We promise to provide you with all the support you'll need as a tutor to have a satisfying and rewarding volunteer experience. In return, we ask that you make a commitment to provide at least 2 hours of instruction time/week, plus the time to prepare appropriate lessons for your student.

Training classes for tutors begin SEPTEMBER 18, 2003 at the New Haven Adult Education Building, 580 Ella Grasso Blvd, New Haven. There is plenty of free parking available.

Attendance at all sessions is required. Volunteers must have excellent reading, writing, and English-speaking skills. Please email us at info@lvagnh.org or call 865-3867 for more information, or to register. THANK YOU!
